After catching each other's eye in our shared German class, Carl and I finally connected at a campus event. I noticed he was alone, so I went over to say hello. Before we knew it, three hours had passed without a break in the conversation. An instant friendship was born, and we were best friends for a year.
One day Carl finally worked up the courage to ask me a question. What that question was...I'm still not sure 😂 but it was some vague, nervous, jumbled question about dating. When I asked him to clarify, he basically said, "Whatever you'll agree to." So we tried out one date and never looked back.
We spent a semester together at school, then 2 years growing together in faith and love from different states. Carl proposed (after just one false alarm) at the Cross in Effingham in July of 2020. On November 13, 2021, our days of once-a-month visits and nightly FaceTime calls were finally over when we became husband and wife. This summer-loving girl proved her commitment by moving to Minnesota just in time for a cold, cold winter 😅 and he proves his commitment every day by being the most trustworthy, goofy, patient, unconditionally loving, and sacrificial man I could have ever dreamed of.
